Description
A rum with a great big personality: fiery, full and flavoursome.
The Port Mourant still, was (unsurprisingly) at the Port Mourant estate which was
established in 1732. The process of nationalisation of the sugar industry lead to a centralisation of the various stills located around the country. First it was transferred to Uitvlugt, then in 2000 to its current home at Diamond Distillery along with all the other heritage stills and a modern multi-column set up. Single cask examples are generally limited to independent bottling releases - ta da!
All those sweet tarmac and burnt rubber notes have been nicely balanced against its time in oak, resulting in this piece of delicious-y.
Tasting Notes
Nose: Soft vanilla and ripe banana lead among plenty of winter spice and salinity. Charred oak adds a defined and muscular backdrop, which a little milk chocolate rises through.
Palate:A buttery mouthfeel sparkles with complex molasses spice and sweet red chilli heat. An earthy oak core reveals roasted fruit, more sea salt and sticky toffee.
Finish: A little engine oil adds an interesting touch to a long finish.
